Dear ECET2 Maine 2017 Registrant,
We are so excited to welcome you to ECET2 Maine 2017 on August 10th and 11th at Colby College. The dress is casual throughout the conference. Check-in will begin at 8:45 on August 10th in the lobby of the Diamond Center on the Colby campus. There should be signs as you enter the campus. The conference will begin at 9:45 sharp. If you are staying in a dorm room you will get your dorm key during check-in. Colby will provide all linens (sheets, a blanket, and towels). The dorms are NOT air-conditioned, so you may bring a fan if you would like.
If you arrive early enough you can get your bags into your dorm room before 9:45. If not, there is time before dinner to settle into your room. Dorm rooms are singles and are organized by floor (male and female). The dorms do NOT have elevators, so let us know if you need a room on the first floor. Email Karen MacDonald directly at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have this request.
Breakout session descriptions will be provided to you before you arrive. However, you will select your sessions while at the conference. Please note that there will be a participant limit for each breakout session, so if there is one that you think may be popular, you should get to the session as soon as possible. The list of the specific breakout sessions will be posted on our website ecet2maine.org by mid July.
The official program for the first day ends at 4:45 and we wrap-up on Friday at 3:45. You will be receiving 15 contact hours for your participation over the 2 days. We are planning a celebratory dinner on the evening of the 10th at 5:45 pm. Even if you are commuting, we encourage you to stay for dinner. Please make your dinner selection by July 15th. Everyone, including those who need to head home at 4:45, needs to complete the form so we have an exact count.
(DO NOT FORGET TO DO THIS!)
As you will discover, ECET2 Maine is an amazing opportunity and many people worked hours and hours to help make this event happen. One change we would like to make this year is to participate in a service project. This year’s project is very simple. Before coming to ECET2 Maine we would like you to purchase a new book that would be appropriate for a K-5 school library. If all of us participate, we should collect 150 books. During the event, we are going to ask participants to nominate a K-5 library in need. At the end of the conference, we will raffle this collection off to one of these libraries. Imagine the excitement of receiving 150 new texts for an elementary school library!
There will be many opportunities for networking during the conference. We encourage you to consider bringing business cards to swap with colleagues as an easy way to share contact information. Vista is a popular site, or you can print them on your home computer. Remember, many professionals, including teachers, find them very helpful!
When you are at the conference, you may want a small amount of cash. After our lobster bake dinner on Thursday night, the famous Teachers’ Lounge Mafia Improv group from Western Maine will perform on campus and we will have a cash bar. Also, our wonderful sponsor, Stenhouse Publishing, will be with us and will feature professional books for purchase, so again that might interest you.
Social media will be a big part of our event. Our website is ecet2maine.org and we will be posting information on the site, including resources related to our three strands: teacher leadership, innovative and collaborative practice, and equity. We should also have an agenda up on the website next week. We will also be busy on Twitter and we hope you will join us soon @Ecet2Maine and join in the conversation. (Don’t forget that we will be taking pictures and posting them on our social media accounts.) Feel free to thank our sponsors via Twitter because this event would not be happening without the AMAZING support from Maine and New England organizations. Nellie Mae Foundation, UNUM, MEMIC, Stenhouse Publishing, Maine ASCD, Educate Maine and ECET2 National are our major financial sponsors. In addition, we have received financial support from the Maine Education Association, Cumberland County Federal Credit Union, the Association of Maine Teachers of Mathematics, and York County Federal Credit Union. Colby is a great host and the campus is a wonderful place to work, network, and have fun!
Finally, we remind you that you have committed to attend this conference. If there is any question about your attendance, and you need to withdraw, please email Karen MacDonald at email@example.com by JUNE 30th. That way, we can reach out to someone on our waitlist. After that date, we will be ordering and paying for food, materials, dorm rooms. etc.
Please bookmark our website and check it before arriving on August 10th for any last minute announcements. You can also ask to join our Facebook page which is ECET2ME Teacher Leadership. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy some fabulous Maine weather and see you in August!
